Chipping

Wood Chipping in Melbourne

Branches and green waste run through a chipper on site and cleared — fast, with or without a tree removal. Less volume, no tip runs, a tidy yard. Free quotes Melbourne-wide.

Turn a pile of branches into a cleared yard

Chipping is the unglamorous but genuinely useful part of tree work: feeding branches and green waste through a wood chipper so a head-high pile of limbs becomes a manageable heap of chips. It massively cuts the volume, which means less to haul, no string of trips to the tip, and a yard that's actually clear at the end of the day.

We do it as part of a tree job or completely on its own — across Melbourne, with or without a removal attached.

When chipping is the job you need

  • After a storm — a yard littered with snapped branches and brought-down limbs, chipped and cleared in one visit.
  • After your own pruning — you did the cutting, now there's a pile far too big for the green bin.
  • Hedge and garden clean-ups — accumulated woody prunings and overgrowth reduced and removed.
  • Alongside a removal — the canopy chipped down as the tree comes apart, so nothing piles up.

If you're not removing a tree at all and just need the waste gone, chipping on its own is exactly the right call.

Chipping or mulching — what's the difference?

Same chipper, different goal. Chipping is about clearing — shrinking and removing green waste so it's off your property. Mulching is about keeping — holding onto those chips as garden mulch for your beds. The work in the yard looks identical; the difference is whether the chips leave with us or stay with you. Want the mess gone? Chipping. Want free mulch out of it? Same job, we just leave the pile.

What goes through and what doesn't

The leafy growth, twigs and branches up to about an arm's thickness feed straight through a chipper. The heavier stuff — big limbs and trunk sections — has a diameter limit and is usually cut into lengths and carted rather than chipped. The crew sorts the pile at the quote and tells you what's chipped and what's cut and removed, so there's no guesswork on volume or price.

Part of the bigger job

Chipping is the clean-up backbone of most tree removals, lopping and pruning — it's what keeps a job tidy as it goes. Want the chips kept for the garden instead of carted off? That's mulching, same visit.

Across Melbourne

We bring a chipper right across the metro — the tight inner-north blocks around Brunswick, where clearing waste through a narrow access matters, the eastern suburbs, and the bayside south to Frankston and Mornington. See all the areas we serve.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Can I book chipping on its own, without a tree removal?

Yes. Plenty of people call us with a yard full of branches after a storm, a big prune they did themselves, or a hedge and tree clean-up that's left a pile too big for the green bin. We'll bring a chipper out, run the lot through and either leave the chips for your garden or take them away. It's a standalone job — you don't need to be removing a tree to book it.

What size branches can a chipper handle?

Most of what comes off a domestic tree job — leafy growth, twigs and branches up to a solid arm's thickness — feeds straight through. Bigger limbs and trunk sections are usually cut up and handled separately rather than chipped, because the diameter that goes through a chipper has a limit. At the quote the crew sizes up your pile and tells you what gets chipped and what gets cut and carted.

Do you take the chips away or leave them?

Whichever you want. Fresh chips make perfectly good garden mulch, so a lot of people keep a pile to spread on their beds — that's our mulching service. If you've no use for it, we haul the chips away and leave the yard clear. Just tell us which when we quote.
